Fixing Stuff Around You.

CLEAR THE CLUTTER!

When I study and do my other academic work I always have a lot of books near me. My elder sister always gets annoyed by this habit of mine. Even if I’m studying only one subject I will still have all my other books and notes near me.

So I was doing my university assignment and after completing that I switched to my project work for this week. After reading the guidelines I did not have to dig deep to find out what’s need to be fixed. I could clearly see the mess I have made.

Apart from my crumbled blanket, I realized that I need to organize my books. I started by diving them according to my need for them. I divided them according to genre and subject then I grouped the books that I haven’t read. Placed one of them in my university handbag so that I can read it whenever I get time. Arranged others books in separate bags one consisted of my academic books and the other had all the books that I read because of my interest.

It felt really good to see what I accomplished because A solid book organization system doesn’t just make it easier to find what you are looking for it also makes you more likely to actually pick up a book and read.

If I wasn’t asked to do the task trust me, I would have gathered everything all together and pile them on the shelf. I wouldn’t even bother to put them in the bag because I rely on my sister for all this stuff.

What I learned from this activity is that instead of always relying on my sister to do my work, I can take the responsibility to take charge of how I can organize and manage things around me.

Also that we don’t always need authority to take responsibility and practice everyday leadership. I remember how beautifully Khadija summarized leadership as “Being the agents of positive change”. I learned that getting organized is a form of self-respect and all of us can gain this self-respect by taking responsibility for ourselves and our surroundings. Practicing everyday leadership also instills good habits and helps us to become a lifelong learners.
